Project Jomalig Report and Updates

Updated as of June 25, 8:00pm

Excerpt from the previous blog:

In 2011, JourneyingJames partnered with fellow bloggers to share more than 50 running shoes to the young athletes in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental.

In 2012, more travel bloggers and private companies supported the Book Sharing Project in Gubatwhere we helped the community build their elementary school library- giving them books.

This 2013, we are having another community development project dubbed:

“PROJECT JOMALIG: FEED THE KIDS, CHANGE THE WORLD”

Facebook note on how to join here: Project Jomalig

#ProjectJomalig

According to 2012 DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development), Jomalig, Quezon tops the list of the “Malnourished Towns in the Philippines.” I quote what Dra. Ang (Doctor to the Barrio assigned in Jomalig) said, “Jomalig has been declared the most nutritionally depressed municipality in the whole Philippines. Top 1 according to National Nutrition Council (NNC) in malnutrition. More than 3 out of 10 are malnourished in the island.“ Meaning the kids don’t get enough nutrition that they need. The main reason: the town is hard to reach.

To learn more about the project please read this: PROJECT JOMALIG: FEED THE KIDS, CHANGE THE WORLD.

This will be the forum where I will be publishing the updates and concerns for #ProjectJomalig. If you have questions or concerns please feel free to ask on the comment box.

There is this song that haunts me every time I think of Jomalig,

I see the kids in the street,
With not enough to eat
Who am I, to be blind?
Pretending not to see their needs

-Michael Jackson, Man in the Mirror

Every month, we will bring people there. Help distribute goodies, food or whatever that can help the community. We want to educate the mothers and give livelihood projects to their parents. We need help and a team of committed volunteers. I’m just a simple travel blogger, I just want to make people know what’s there but with regards to community development, I’m sure there are lots of people who are more knowledgeable than me. So if you are passionate and committed to do something that can change the world, welcome to the team.

Your Project Jomalig is a sure gem as well for the kids and the community. Our efforts hopefully should lead to the improvement of the lives of the Jomalig people, environment protection awareness, and to prepare them for the inevitable tourism boom of their island. See you again on future outreach and expeditions! It is a great honor of meeting you and the wave 1 team of Project Jomalig.

Let us support project like this. A little time and a little of what we have can do great things in changing the lives of people. We are responsible for helping others in need no whatever circumstances we have in our life, we can always do something no matter how small and simple it may seem. 🙂

Sail on, journeying james! I am interested to join. Would it be feasible to bring my 8 year old son? He will be another hand to help. I would like him to be aware of this kind of advocacy. Please advise. Thanks. 🙂

    Hello —

I’ll be launching an initiative for Jomaligins. I’m raising up enough funds to buy 100 school supplies packages for grade 1 pupils. I already talked to thier DepEd IOC and just waiting for their reply.

This is part of the Second Edition of Project 100.
I’m planning to visit them on June 21 ’til June 23.

I also have plans of conducting a Leadership Training Seminar for the High School Students of JOmalig NHS.

Please check out Project 100’s FB page —
