Jansport Oxidation Backpack Review

Jansport Oxidation Backpack Review

I’ve been a fan of Jansport backpack since high school. Many are still surprised when they learned that I used a simple Jansport non-outdoorsy type of backpack during my 100-Day Journey around the Philippines. Looking at my battered backpack makes me sentimental about the journey. I wanted to use it more but truth be told, the bag should retire.

So I was thankful when I got a new bag from R.O.X. A Jansport Oxidation Backpack from their Spring 2013 Outside Collection which will be available on December 2012 . I got a slick, tan backpack which I have been using for the past 3 months already.

Here are some of the things I observed about the on my Oxidation backpack.

LIKES:

1. Ergonomic. The design was well-thought off and provides optimum comfort and usability. Following are what’s included in the bag design and how I used it:

-Laptop sleeve. I love the dedicated laptop sleeve at the back which can also be used for hydration pack. As a blogger, I always bring my laptop with me so this is a very important compartment of the bag.

Laptop sleeve

-Two side pockets. One for my hammock and one for my water bottle. One of the side pockets has a small extra pocket where I place my instant coffee and tea bags.

-Two front zippered insulated-pockets. Where I put my travel book and some important papers. And because its insulated, I can place my travel mug with hot coffee and worry not that it will get cold.

Front insulated pockets for hot or cold beverages

-One mini front pocket. Where I place things which I always used- surf wax, earphones, shades, etc.

Front Zip Pocket

-One front stash compartment. This I use to organize my toiletries, pen, etc.

Deluxe organizer to keep essentials handy

-Main backpack. Where I put my shoes, snorkeling gear, camera and clothes.

-Adjustable webbing side compression. To keep my hammock and water bottle in place. It will also make it hard for thieves to just get what’s inside the side pockets.

2. Simple. It doesn’t shout out “I’m a backpacker” when I’m roaming on city streets. It’s slick and sexy that fits my personality.

3. Classy. I guess the color makes it classy and stand out when compared to other outdoor packs. I love the play of light brown (tan) canvass, dark brown linings and the brown leather tag in front.

DISLIKE:

The tan color gets dirty easily. I wish I got the dark gray one so its not obvious when its already dirty. Or maybe a blue one.

Product Specifications:

Capacity: 30L

Weight: 2lbs (less than a kilo)

Dimensions: 9″ H x 12″ W x 8″ D

Laptop Sleeve: Can fit up to 15″ laptop

Fabric: Polyester

All in all, I love my new backpack. I actually recommend for those who are looking for a new backpack for 2013’s travel adventures. If you want to check out other bags under the Outside Collection, I attached below: (my) Oxidation, Watchtower, Growler, Flare, Smoke Signal, Lantern and Guidepost.

James, thanks for sharing this review. I’ve been thinking of what to get for my bro for Christmas and I think a regular Jansport backpack is a good choice. His been using his Jansport for 4 years na and needs replacement soon. Aside from bag, I’m also thinking of giving him a new acoustic guitar. Hmmm, ano kaya mas mura? hheheh

Thanks for giving me an idea! \o/

i was thinking about getting this bag, but i was wondering how far down the organizer pocket go? is it to the bottom of the bag or does it stop in the middle?
