Exhilarating Antique: Tibiao Fish Spa- Wet and Ticklish!

What a nice way to start the “busy” day!

Tibiao Fish Spa! Not just your ordinary spa, because this spa uses fish to “massage” your tired feet.

I’m actually not into spas as it’s quite expensive in Manila but this I should not miss while traveling right? And for just 100pesos per 45minutes-session, it’s a steal.

Kiss my feet and hands!

Actually, I first learned about fish spa while I was in Malaysia almost 3 years ago. If I remember it right, it costs 20MYR (Php260/30minutes), too expensive for a Filipino backpacker like me.

Weird, Wet and Ticklish!

So I get wet. First step is to wash your feet and then to stage 1 where small terrafish would feast on your calluses and dead skin cells. The sensation was ticklish. It’s kinda weird at first but after some minutes you get used by it and you ask for more. I skipped stage 2 and moved to stage 3 where larger fish are. Larger fish means, more tickling sensation. Ohhhhh… these fishes love my feet! Relaxing and exhilarating!

October 4 tweet: “Oh oh… These terrafishes are tickling my feet. Tibiao fish spa now.”

What’s good about Tibiao Fish Spa experience is that they use endemic fish,

Fish Feast on my Foot.

where they gathered from the mountains of Antique (read from one of the articles inside the Spa that the owner discovered these fish during one of their mountaineering trips). While most Fish Spa in Asia uses Garra rufa fish which are costly to acquire and difficult to maintain, this kind of business set-up is solocal, truly Filipino. Props to the owner and his friends for putting up a business like this!

Btw, I also like the posters plastered inside the spa as it promotes Antique destinations. Good job!

Tibiao Fish Spa along the Antique National Highway

Tibiao Fish Spa is so easy to find as it’s just on the national highway (on the left-side if you are coming from Boracay). All tricycle drivers know where Tibiao Fish Spa is. They also have a branch in SM Iloilo. Tibiaoo, Antique is 2-3 hours ride from Boracay.

This post is a part of Visayas Trails- a 25-day journey around Western and Central Visayas (October 1-25, 2011). My primary purpose is to learn the dialect, meet locals and rediscover the sites worth visiting for my dream escapade next year.

I visited Iloilo, Antique, Boracay, Bacolod, Cebu, Bohol and Dumaguete spending a total of Php11,096 all-in excluding airfare. Thanks to CouchSurfing and friends who I met along the way, this trip would not be memorable and exciting without you.
