10 ICONS of Boracay

Sooo Boracay…

Here are the 10 icons you wouldn’t miss when on the island of Boracay. Have you seen them all?

Maybe you have your picture taken in one of these:

1. Willy’s Rock. You will not miss this when walking on the white beach, located at Station 1. I believe this is the most-photographed icon in Boracay. I really don’t know why.

2. Sunset at White Beach. The white beach is, for lack of better term, “stunning” high-tide or low-tide; add the setting golden sun and you get one of the most beautiful sunsets in the Philippines. Boracay sunset paints the romantic ambiance of the island.

3. Fire dancers. Ladies, gents and gays dance with poi in their hands. Goes near you hoping to get some “tip” for their crazy dance moves. You would know the first-timers in Boracay when they stop and finish the show.

4. D-Mall. It’s in the middle of the strip of restaurants and hotels. Food, shopping and everything in between can be found here. If you are keen enough, you always get the cheapest deals here.

5. Henna Tattoo & Braided hair. I have seen a lot of photos of these in Facebook folders of my friends. Don’t tell me you didn’t try it. 🙂

6. Dated Sand castles. Okay, when I came in the island for the first time, I really want to have a photo with this (with the current date of course). Everyone loves to! I just smile when I see visitors fall in-line to have their picture taken with this. So the sand-castle maker would be happy for the forced “donation.”

7. Party People in Bars. If you haven’t join the party then you never really had the “experience” of Boracay. Everything can happen here and I think this is where the saying “What happened in Boracay, stays in Boracay.” Go on, reminisce that kiss from a stranger! My fave is still Summer Place.

8. Jonah’s Fruitshake. They are in the island for more than 2 decades already. You must taste why. Cheapest shake is Php90, 500ml.

9. Touts. Shades. Discount sir/ma’am. Massage, massage… Helmet-diving, helmet-diving! Banana boat??! Henna tattoo, cheap pearls, etc. Pretty annoying eh? Fact: These touts know if you are new in the island or if you’ve been there for a week.

10. Kite-surfing at Bulabog. Bulabog beach is on the other side of the island. Only a few goes to experience kite-surfing as this is soooo expensive. I really wanted to try this, well maybe when my blog hits 10,000 visits per day.

Worth mentioning: Puka beach, 250pesos-eat-all-you-can dinner, Boom Boom bar (my fave chill-out place!) and the throngs and throng of Koreans touring in groups.

Boracay will always be Boracay. I just hope that visitors would be responsible enough with their trash. I want to experience Boracay without the crowd. If you been to Boracay a lot of times, then maybe my “Not Your Ordinary Boracay” article would break the monotony.

What’s you fave spot in Boracay? Care to share?

Btw, If you think I missed something, do leave a reply. Thanks dudes/dudettes!

This post is a part of Visayas Trails- a 25-day journey around Western and Central Visayas (October 1-25, 2011). My primary purpose is to learn the dialect, meet locals and rediscover the sites worth visiting for my dream escapade next year.

I visited Iloilo, Antique, Boracay, Bacolod, Cebu, Bohol and Dumaguete spending a total of Php11,096 all-in excluding airfare. Thanks to CouchSurfing and friends who I met along the way, this trip would not be memorable and exciting without you.

i’ve done or seen 1 to 9. 🙂 you forgot to mention riding on a paraw. the best experience for me especially on a sunset. i loove puka beach as well.. a nice change of scene from the crowded station 2-3.

ohhh yeah, i forgot the paraw ride. indeed, ibang experience din yun lalo na kapag pa-sunset na.
marami palang may gusto sa puka beach. sadly, the last time i was there busload of tourist are coming. medyo nawala na yung pagka-solemnity ng place. still, malinis parin compared to white beach.

full moon parties at Jungle Bar in Bulabog.. sobrang saya! 😉 happens every month pag full moon, 3 nyts in a row. meron silang signature drink na F*ck you Archie! which can make you say to urself the next day na “what happens in Boracay must DEFINITELY stay in Boracay!”
for cheap but “namit” hungry fix, famous among us “Boracay locals” and I think sa tourists din is Smoke Resto and Jasper’s..you can find both in D’Mall..

Sunset is definitely for me the best icon of Boracay. It’s not just romantic but truly pictures the phrase “The Beauty of the Philippines” Don’t you agree?

This is a good story for Boracay first-timers… I haven’t tried some of the things here you mentioned when I was there so it makes want to go back there again try to do these things.
