Q: What does a backpacker do in Del Monte Golf Course?
A: Drink lots of pineapple juice.
I guess I have all the right to treat myself with bottomless pineapple juice. First, I’m surrounded with this vast plantation of pineapple; Second, its cheap (Php20 only); and Third; I’m not feeling well. I got a sore-throat and flu- too much traveling and less rest.
I still have some pandesals (bread) in my bag so I didn’t order something to eat. I wanted to gulp all of pineapple juice I can. Remember I’m trying to live within my budget (Php500 or less/day).

Juice, pandesal and my travel notebook has been my good companion for the rest of my stay at the Golf Course
I took this time to reflect once again (and write on my travel notes) while staring at the towering pine trees and enjoying the cold gusting wind from the Kitanglad Mountain ranges. It was therapeutic and very relaxing, I didn’t mind the time.
I was trying to ponder “Why the Koreans play golf while the Filipinos serve as caddy?” Is it just plain courtesy or part of the chronic issue of my countrymen being slaves in their own land. Are Filipinos destined to always be at the tail’s end, to be the one who always serves? Any thoughts on this? Are we contented to be that forever? I have similar reflections while I was in Palawan solo beach camping.
Ohhh by the way, before I forgot, I drank 5 glassful of pineapple juices (don’t dare ask me how many times I visited the restroom) all for only Php20. 🙂
How to get to Del Monte Country Club from CDO:
Go to Agora Terminal in CDO. Take the Rural bus going to Kibawe. Tell the conductor to that you will get off at Ala-e (Php30). Then take a jeepney or multi-cab to Camp Phillips (Php15), from Camp Phillips take a multi-cab going to Manolo and tell the driver to drop you at Del Monte Golf Club (Php10).

James, I live somewhere there! I’m from cdo. And because of your post, I’m thinking of visiting the vast pineapple plantations… Ah, if I can remember, I journeyed through the place by bus before… Wonder how exactly it looks now… I’m missing home so I can’t wait for this June to come! And for that I will be touring my beautiful country for sure!:)
Thank you for sharing…:)
my pleasure… i enjoyed my stay in northern mindanao and the landscape made me wow!
the philippines will continue to be beautiful, 🙂
james. If were able to join PTB last year, we’ve probably with you in the Del Monte Golf Club. Just a matter of weeks when you’ve gone there.
James, that’s multi-cab.
There is another way which you will not take the multicab anymore james in going to Del Monte Club. You can just proceed from Ala-e and get-off at Brgy. San Miguel. From there, you just take a walk at about 500 -900 meters. Since you are a runner, that’s better for you. I’ll give you a post on this for your tips on alternative food/ and budget.
ooohhh.. thanks for the tip, yeah, i think thats easier nga. i really dont mind walking that extra meters.
thanks for the post! read it already.
see you sir when i go back to northern mindanao
I heard there are even resorts now that are exclusive for the Koreans, baka sa susunod magbabayad na tayo to access some of our own tourists attractions at iba makikinabang
yes there are lots. what they do is rent a certain resort (for a long time 5-10yrs) for their exclusive use.
sad noh?!
