“To awaken quite alone in a strange town is one of the pleasantest sensations in the world. You are surrounded by adventure. You have no idea of what is in store for you, but you will, if you are wise and know the art of travel, let yourself go on the stream of the unknown and accept whatever comes in the spirit in which the gods may offer it.” –Freya Stark
This is one of those times when I can’t sleep because of excitement. It’s like making love for the first time- a pleasurable anxiety. Just the mere thought of it thrills me. In exactly 10 days, I would go on another 100-day journey and this time with a larger scope- Southeast Asia (Google past journey: 100 Days of Backpacking the Philippines). Yes, I will embark on a 100-day Southeast Asian trip starting July 19.
My intentions during this journey are to dig deeper into myself, conscious of the great questions in life- Who am I? What am I here for? Life’s purpose and all that. I wanted discover the beauty of going deep into one’s own soul.
“Solitude, I reflected, is the one deep necessity of the human spirit to which adequate recognition is never given.” –Freya Stark
I have a very rough plan because I really didn’t think I would be able to do this this year but then when opportunity came, I grabbed it quickly. With regards to itinerary and places to visit, I don’t have a plan except that I know I’ll land on Siem Reap on the 19th. After that who knows what will happen? But the thing is that I really want to take it slow. So I might just visit 2-3 sites in each country and spend more time relaxing and drinking tea. I even have a 10-day Vipassana retreat in Thailand which I really look forward to.
Countries I plan to visit are the ff:
Cambodia. Re-visit Angkor and explore some temples
Thailand. I’ll do a 10-day silent meditation
Laos. I really wanted to see this country because I haven’t been into here yet.
Vietnam. To drink coffee and take lots of street photos
Malaysia. I want to see Penang.
Singapore. Just a short stop-over and I’m looking for couch to crash.
Indonesia. I would love to visit Bali again to surf and do yoga.
And if budget allows, I would love to fly to
Timor Leste (East Timor) and Brunei to visit all the ASEAN countries.
I’ll finish with the remaining 2-3 weeks in the Philippines, specifically Palawan because I want to save the best for last. I’ll lead a tour in Coron on October 15-18 which has limited slots of 18. It should be fun and I wanted to share my #100DaysSEA stories during this trip. 🙂 Unfortunately, Myanmar is not on my plans but who knows what will happen along the way?
A lot has changed in my travels for the past 3 years especially last year. I saw myself evolved in ways I didn’t imagine possible. I guess travel has taught me to venture deeper into the unknown and go with the flow. I know for sure that I’m not the journeyingjames of 2012. So much changes and I embrace that.
Budget? I think I would be needing around Php80,000-100,000 for this trip ($20-25/day). I’ll be honest with you that I don’t have even half of the travel money right now. Plus I need to buy a new camera (Php20,000-23,000) since my Panasonic LX5 gave up on me during this Mindanao trip. But I know for sure that I will be able to finish this through my online start-up businesses. And I would appreciate it if you would share to your friends that we offer tours to Palawan and other famous Philippine destinations all-year long thru www.jjtoursph.com and I sell hammocks that converts into a travel neck pillow www.facebook.com/hammockrepublic.
If you are on Instagram, please do follow me @journeyingjames. I would be posting photos and updates with the #100DaysSEA (SEA- SouthEast Asia). I wish I can have 10,000 followers before the trip ends because I want to transition from blogging to Instagramming.
That’s all for now! I am psyching myself and starting to feel this journey. Thank you for following my journey!
