Learning to Live A Simple Life
Part 1 of 2: THE QUEST FOR MORE
Part 2 of 2 : THE ART OF LETTING GO
“To let go and surrender
To be contented and happy
That is the art of simple life.”
Living a simple life is rather hard.
-It is because we have become so accustomed of getting what we want when we want it.
-It is because we have so conditioned ourselves of the comforts and convenience of the world.
-It is because only a few out there are telling you to be contented with what you have.
-It is because the mass media have told us a lie that we need this and that.
-It is because we always want the quick-fix solution.
But I thank God I came into my senses and became aware of what really matters in life. Some call this getting old but I call it awakening. And applying the life lessons I learned along the journey I have been the past years. It is taking into action these life lessons I learned from the past years I lived here on earth. I’m thankful that I don’t have to continue the rat race where I am in. And finally I can just live my life independent of what others think I should do.
I appreciate the experiences that came my way- I was able to know more of myself and be satisfied with having a little. ‘Cause only when I appreciate the little things that I have that I understand that the little I have is actually MORE. And the more I become contented with what I have, the more I see myself free and rich.
I was talking with one traveler one day and she asked me about the project I was doing one hot summer day. I was working on my small “kubo” (thatched house) by the beach. I told her this is a dream coming true. An early retirement plan, a simple house by the beach where I can surf when I want to. I’m planning to grow my own food and harness the power of the sun for my electricity. I’m building a water pump because I want to be independent of rationed water. I’m building my own water filtration system. I recycle and reuse as much waste as possible. I enjoy fresh air and rejoice with the thought that my coconut, papaya and banana trees would give me food in time.
I’m not saying that people have to do the same in order to live a simple life. You can live a simple life even in the city too. 🙂
I am using nature-friendly soap and shampoo so I can use the bath water to water my plants and I am contented with natural breeze and don’t want to put any air-conditioning in my house.
But I have so much more to learn about living a simple life.
I’m not saying I’m already living a simple life but I’m getting there. I want to progress more and more and live more simpler and more simpler.
I want to learn more of letting go,
of surrender,
of contentment and happiness.
What a joyous journey I am in!!!
And you can do the same. Be THANKFUL of what you have right now! Start by enumerating 10 things you are grateful for. I recommend reading “THE MAGIC” by Rhonda Byrne. It helped me a lot to see things in a new perspective.
Hope you can share this blog. 🙂 Have a blessed day!
