I always listen to locals whenever I visit a new place or town. My sistah-friend Cathe told me about Laswitan Lagoon in Cortes, Surigao del Sur. This is an incredible rock formation near the shore that created three natural basins that when the surf is too high, the waves would fall into the main basin creating a waterfall-like effect.
It’s pretty awesome ‘coz I haven’t seen anything like this in all my travels in the Philippines before. The swimming area around the rocks are pretty huge, I guess 200 visitors would not fill the place.
The spot can be reached by walking about 200 meters from the baranggay road. I just took the habal-habal (motorbike) from the national road in Cortes, where I paid Php100 for the rental. The ride was about 20 minutes along rocky and slippery path.
This is already being promoted by the local government as a tourist attraction. But you have to be lucky enough to see the waves create waterfalls because it only happend during October-March, during the Amihan season. Locals, students and even visitors form the nearby towns are already flocking to this place during the weekends.
Laswitan is located at Baranggay Madrelino about 5 kilometers away from the Poblacion of Cortes, Surigao del Sur.
