“It’s the most happiest time of the year…”
And so if you prepping your Christmas Gift list, I know the ff would be of help when you think of what to give to your friend or inaanak who are adventurous as me.
Most of the things listed here are what I use while traveling or into an outdoor activity. Some I also want for myself, so if you have don’t have someone to give gifts to, I would willingly accept yours. *kidding*
Sarong. You can buy this anywhere- malls and markets. I also have some from Bali and India here
Head gear. The versatile piece of cloth.
Travel Backpack. How about a Jansport Oxidation Backpack. My suggestion is for you to ask the purpose. Some want daypacks (22L-30L) or multi-day backs (40L – up)
Travel mug. Really useful, make sure that the lid is heavy-duty and will not leak.
Slippers. I prefer slippers especially when flying in and out of the airport.
Water bottle. Nathan has a lot of designs that would fit every backpackers desire.
STORES: Visit my fave outdoor shop: Recreational Outdoor eXchange.
Headlamp. I need to have this soon. A Black Diamond maybe?
Outdoor shoes. There are a lot to choose from. TNF, Columbia, Salomon, etc. I recommend the Zem Gear Terra which is perfect for water and other outdoor activities. I use New Balance trail shoes now.
Trekking pants. As cheapo as Php900 (Brown Trekker) to Php4,000 (Mountain Hardwear). I use a conquer trekking pants now, bought it at Php1,200
Water-resistant Jacket. Choose the one with a hood and of course it whould be thermal for the extreme weather conditions in the Philippines.
Dry fit shirt. Maybe you want to order a limited edition “Hiking Shirt” from journeyingjames
Tent. Every mountaineer must have one.
Drylite towel. I use the tek towel from Sea to Summit.
Drybag. Also using Sea to Summit dry bag.
Shades. Not only pang-porma but for protection from UV rays. Don’t buy fake Php50 sunglasses.
Cook set. A small cookset will do.
Foldable mug/bowl. I always see this in outdoor shops and I want to get one for myself this year.
STORES: R.O.X., Camp Sandugo, Habagat Outdoors, Conquer and some outdoor shops in malls.
Snorkeling gear. Instead of renting “public” snorkle and mask why not invest your own, its hygienic too!
Board shorts. Don’t wear cotton shorts when going to the beach, its heavy and hard to dry. O’neill has really good board short designs.
Rashguard. To compliment your board shorts, buy a rash guard too. O’neill has a ‘sunblock’ top that I’m using right now.
Sunblock lotion. Don’t you try going to the beach without wearing some. Zinka is the brand I use.
Bikini. I don’t know anything about this. ;p
Surf wax. Ranges from Php90 up. Can’t leave without this on my backpack.
GoPro. Perfect for surfing and other outdoor activities. If your friend is into videos, this is the perfect rad for him/her.
STORES: R.O.X., Mad Kahuna (Cubao X) and Stoked Inc.
Race belt. Make your runner friend’s career easier by giving him a race belt and say goodbye to safety pins.
Running shorts. I want to have a new one too!
Running tights. Still on my Christmas wishlist. I want to have one by year end.
Sun visor. Protect yourself from the harmful sun rays.
Hydration belt. Runners who do 10K and up needs to have this in his arsenal. Great for long runs!
Timex IM Watch. Runners want to time themselves during training, race day and helps hen running late from work. I recommend this because it can also be used while cross-training in a pool or biking.
STORES: A Runner’s Circle (Manila), Royal Sporting House, RUNNR and Toby’s.
Lonely Planet Philippines. Buy the latest edition, 2012. Available in Fully-Booked or National Bookstores.
Chi Running. I learned a lot from this book. Available in Fully-Booked.
Across the Philippines in a Kayak. Singaporean Kayaker recounts his kayaking experience around the Philippines. Available in R.O.X.
Dispatch Travel Journal. A collection of wanderlust stories from different indie-travelers. Available in R.O.X.
If there is something that I really want to get this Christmas, I would opt for a longboard for surfing 🙂 Thanks in advance for your gift! hahaha
If I forgot something, please feel free to add on the list. Thanks!
But do remember that its not the gift that we gift or receive that makes us happy this Christmas, it is the reason why we give and receive which is LOVE. So give love on Christmas day! haha
