Before anything else, forgive the half-naked photos below…
I’m already over-staying here in Cantilan, Surigao del Sur. I was supposed to be in Bacolod now but because of some changes on my itinerary I needed to stay a week more here in town where I always make love with the sea and the surfboard every single morning. I’ve been surfing almost everyday for two weeks now and my skin is already dark not to mention the dry skin I’m developing because of my laziness to put some lotion before I sleep. :p
I’m staying in a beautiful cottage by the beach owned by my friend, Cathe, aptly named ‘Cathe Pacific‘ because it faces Pacific Ocean.
And as you would guess, the waves here can get as high as 8ft. In fact, I was surfing an overhead closeout waves this morning. Good news! I was wiped out only once and rode the biggest wave so far. Reality check: I need to practice more on my paddling skills and duck diving. And still nursing an aching lower ribs which I still don’t know what’s the cause.
I love it here. It’s like my own paradise. Time is slow and I can paddle out anytime I want, thanks to my local surfer friend, Brendo of Anod Sign,s who lent me a 7″ft surfboard.
Cathe also lent me her motorbike which I use when I need to go to the town proper to buy something or use the internet. The setting is just perfect as I can use much of my time thinking about my book “ISANGDAAN” and planning for the next projects concerning my blog journeyingjames.com.
I’m loving the idea of slow travel– where you don’t have a fixed itinerary or a checklist of places to visit and see. I’m just here trying to live like the locals.
Cooking my own breakfast,
fetching water from the waterpump and buying fresh fish from the fishermen.
Sometimes I get some coconut and drink buko juice to cool my warm day.
And yes, I still sleep on my hammock with the crashing waves as my background music to aid me in my zzzzzzzz…
So how’s my usual day? I share you some of the tweets I posted for the past days:
