Whitewater Rafting at Chico River, Kalinga

It was my first time to visit Kalinga Province. My second time to try Whitewater Rafting and I’m elated to be doing this in the mighty Chico River. When I saw Whitewater Rafting in Chico River in the itinerary I was excited. I remembered my experience in CDO when I did The Ride of My Year. Good times!

So the day came and we are on our way to the jump-off. But before that a scenic road coming from Tuguegarao City via Tabuk City on board a jeepney to Pasil. I can’t help but climb to the top for an awesome view.

The Mighty Chico River or “Rio Chico de Cagayan” as called by the Spaniards

When we arrived at the starting area, we were given a short lecture on proper use of the paddle and things to remember on the water. We should always remember: Safety First!

So it was time to paddle. There are 3 important commands you need to remember: Forward, Paddle Back and Stop. Always listen to your guide and don’t forget to high-five after that rough rapids.

Paddles up and highfive every after a difficult rapid

Now I have to tell you the experience right? Now, Im at a lost of words. So maybe the photos below can speak for themselves:

at one point the guides will allow the paddlers to swim in the river as this portion is already safe to swim. but this one is really tiring

the rafting lasted for about 3hours, so after feasting on our lunch at Tabuk, all are well not on their best pose. sorry guys! haha

Funny Story:

Look at Ed’s face (blue helmet at the back). Compare that to Angel’s (dark blue helmet on the right side of the raft)

We are about to go through a big and difficult rapid.

Ed: *looks at me with an evil grin*
James: *knew what Ed was thinking*
Angel: *no idea of what’s happening*

Big rapid coming…. Angel about to fall to the water…

Ed: *looks at me again, evil grin again*
James: *about to help Angel*
Ed: *cues something*

Angel falls to the water

James: *laughs*
Ed: *evil laughs*

hahahaha! It was so much fun to see Angel. Do note too that this happened not once but twice. Pure entertainment.

Watch that scene from the video below:
