ISANG DAAN Journey- Of Hammocks, Homestays and Hotels

The following is a list of the places where I slept during my ISANG DAAN Journey.

This will be updated until I finish my 100 Days of Backpacking the Philippines, therefore it would be a great resource if you are traveling around the Philippines as most of the Philippine destinations will be covered.

DAYS 1-10

1. Touch of Glory Prayer Mountain, Antipolo, Rizal. Dorm room (Php100/night)

2. Same with day 1

3. Friend’s House, Valenzuela City. (Free)

4. Nagsasa Cove, Zambales. Hammock (Php100- overnight fee)

5. Victory Liner Bus Terminal, Sta. Cruz, Zambales. On the bench (Free mosquito bites) 🙂

6. Quezon Island, Hundred Islands, Alaminos, Pangasinan. Hammock (Free)

7. Police Station, Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur. Hammock (Free)

8. Diocesan Pastoral Center, Bangued, Abra. Room (Php300)

9. Edu’s Homestay, Pagudpod, Ilocos Norte. Homestay (Free)

10. Log Cabin, Adams, Ilocos Norte. Room (Free, c/o Adams tourism office and Dra. Bielmaju)

 

DAYS 11-20

11. Slept in the bus from Ilocos to Tuguegarao. (AC, Free)

12. Ukkong Lodging House, Cabugao, Apayao. (Php150/night)

13. Kalinga Capitol, inside the Tourism office. Couch. (Free)

14. Tattoo master artist, Fang-od’s house in Buscalan, Tingalayan, Kalinga. Homestay (Php150)

16. Salt and Pepper Heritage House in Sagada. Homestay. (Free)

19. Batad Pension and Guesthouse. Room, got a Php50 discount (Php150/night) (Helpful list of accommodations in BATAD)

20. Batad Pension and Guesthouse. Native House, got a Php50 discount (Php150/night)

 

DAYS 21-30

21. Lamut, Ifugao. Aunt’s home (Free)

22. Maddela, Quirino Province. Maddela Waterfall’s Lodge (Php200, includes dinner and booze)

23. Slept in a bus from Baler to San Jose, Nueva Ecija and transfered to a bus bound to Manila, then to a friend’s place in Manila. (Free)

24. Summit Circle Hotel Cebu (formerly Midtown Hotel). Nice and clean hotel, very near to mall, bank and important establishments in Cebu City. (Sponsored, so free)

26. Manila. Friend’s house. Room. (Free)

27. Slept on my hammock while on board a ship to Marinduque (1-4am), then proceeded to  Boac Cathedral and waited for the sun to set. Hammock/church (Free)

28. Mogpog, Marinduque. Homestay (Free). Mariduquenos are very welcoming and hospitable

29. Mompong Island, Sta, Cruz, Marnduque. Homestay at Copra farmer’s house (Free)

30. Avenue Plaza Hotel. Hotel Room. (Sponsored, so its free). Love their breakfast buffet, especially the crispy dried fish. Super nice room, soft & snoozing sheets, large bathroom and amazing view. You can read and watch my experience “James as a Luxury Traveler?”

DAYS 31-40

31. Old Sampaguita Inn, Naga City. Fan room with CR and nothing much. (Php25o)

32. Bagasbas Lighthouse, Camarines Norte (Hotel room c/o CamNorte’s Tourism Office)

33. Old Sampaguita Inn, Naga City. Fan room, common CR and nothing much. (Php150)

34. Hotel Xandra, Legazpi, Albay. Saleman’s room-fan room and common CR. (Php 235)

35. Dancalan Beach Resort, Donsol, Sorsogon. Where TV personalities like Aga Mulach and Kuya Kim Atienza stayed when they visited Donsol. (Sponsored by Myra Roces of Koh Lanta (Caramoan Tours). Warm staff and helpful owners! (Free)

37. Rancheros Hotel, Masbate City. Nothing much and dirty bathroom (Php235).

38. V. Mayor’s Lodge House, Monreal, Masbate. Lodging c/o Monreal, Masbate Tourism Office (Sir Renante Letada)

39. Found a not-so-perfect-spot to hang my hammock outside Gaisano Mall, Maasin City, Southern Leyte while waiting for the roro bus to Mindanao. Hammock (Free)

40. Borongan City. Stayed at surfer friend, Jeremiah. Homestay (Free)

 

DAYS 41-50

41. Same with Day 40

43. Jerucel Lodging House (near Dahil Sa’yo), Tacloban City. Room and common bath, dirty CR and rooms (Php120)

44. Naval, Biliran. A CSer friend helped me in suggesting a place where to sleep. Homestay (Free)

47. San Jose, Dinagat. A CSer connected me to his cousin. Homestay (Free)

48. Same with Day 47

49. Firma’s Lodge, Surigao City. Simple and clean lodging house, free to use their utensils and get unlimited water refill. Fan Room and common CR (Php 300)

50. Island Vacations, Socorro, Surigao del Sur, accommodation and food c/o Sir Ed Sangco of Island Vacations. AC Room (Free)

DAYS 51-60

68. Slept in one of the dorm-type rooms in MSU, Marawi City. Forget the name of the place (Free)

69. Couchsurf at Sir Wendell of Journeys and Travels, Pagadian City. (Free)

DAYS 71-80

71. Casa Don Atilano, Zamboanga City (Php200, fan room, room sharing)

72. Slept at the ferry boat to Jolo, Sulu (travel time: 8:00pm-4:30am)

Bunk Bed, Tourist Class, ferry Zamboanga City to Jolo, Sulu

73. Peacekeeper’s Inn, Jolo, Sulu (Php350/AC room sharing)

74. Slept on a carton, on board a ferry Jolo to Bongao, Tawi-Tawi. (Worst-ever!)

This needs a full blog post. Look at where I slept, do you think I would fit in that little crammed space?

75. Becky’s Pension, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi (Php250 non-AC, room sharing)

76. Traveller’s Inn, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi (Php200, non-AC, double-deck)

Double-deck beds, nothing fancy at Php200/night

77. Slept at the bus, travel from Zamboanga City to Pagadian City

78. Kubo near Villa der Mar, Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte. (Discounted price: Php200, beach front)

79. Harold’s Mansion, Dumaguete City (Php250/dorm type, AC room)

Dorm room full of double-deck beds, AC and cheapo on Php250/night

80. Tent at JJ Backpacker’s Village (Php150/tent, beach front)

 

DAYS 81-90

81. Same with Day 80

I slept inside the gray tent

82. Slept at Kuya Toto’s house in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental (Homestay, Free)

83. Harold’s Mansion, Dumaguete City (Php250/dorm type, AC room)

84. Same with Day 83

85. Slept at Boljoon, Cebu Tourism office, thanks to Sir Victor. (Free)

86. Couchsurfed at Charity’s house, Cebu City. (Free)

87. Slept at cousin’s house in Bacolod City. (Free)

88. Slept at friend’s place in La Carlota City, thanks K! (Free)

89. Couchsurfed at Shaun’s house, Iloilo City. (Free)

90. Slept on a bunk bed, ship from Iloilo City to Cuyo, Palawan.

 

DAYS 91-100

91. Same with Day 90

92. Slept at friend’s place, church actually- Grace Baptist Church, Puerto Princesa City. Thanks Harvey! (Folding bed, Free)

93. Slept in another friend’s river house, Puerto Princesa City (Free)

96. Slept on my hammock, in one of the islands of El Nido, Palawan (Free, beach camping)
