I was in my element when I hung my hammock on the first night of stay. The overnight stay became 2 nights because I felt at home, Kuya Edwin and Ate Sheila welcomed me to stay for free in their place- Kayak Inn, Tibiao, Antique. The place is located about 4 kilometers from the national highway.
I share what I wrote in my travel notebook. I wrote this when I was having coffee and staring at the river just below me:
8:15am, 5th of October 2011
“When fireflies light the trees, dog barks, the river sings, oh the gecko joins the chorus.
This place is divine! Fireflies said good night and the roosters woke me up good morning.
The constant flow from the river and the cool dew is refreshment to the soul. The trees, the mountains, the blue sky and the chirping birds make a scene that is inconceivable for a city boy like me. Oh, how beautiful are the small butterflies! Nature is close, she is speaking thru everything. Eyes are observing as they should, all I can feel is life. Nature in her purest form.
I wish I can stay here for one more night.”
This kind of place is a treat when I’m traveling. Meeting locals and just being with them are memories that will be forever in my heart (not to mention the multitudes of fireflies that serenaded me during my two nights of stay at Kayak Inn).
“Fireflies said good night and the roosters woke me up good morning.”
Let me end this post by a quote: “And we travel, to become young fools again– to slow time down and get taken in, and fall in love once more.” –Pico Iyer
When you are in Antique, never ever miss this place- Kayak Inn (Bgry. Importante, Tibiao, Antique). They also offer Waterfalls trek, River-kayaking and Kawa hot bath. Truly an EXHILARATING experience in ANTIQUE!

This post is a part of Visayas Trails- a 25-day journey around Western and Central Visayas (October 1-25, 2011). My primary purpose is to learn the dialect, meet locals and rediscover the sites worth visiting for my dream escapade next year.
I visited Iloilo, Antique, Boracay, Bacolod, Cebu, Bohol and Dumaguete spending a total of Php11,096 all-in excluding airfare. Thanks to CouchSurfing and friends who I met along the way, this trip would not be memorable and exciting without you.

Which part of the Philippines is this? Is that the river outside? It looks rather more relaxing while sitting on the balcony
I want to see fireflies in real life! I never have one. They say its magical! Well, I agree with Pico Iyer – travel slows time down making it the best way to appreciate life and to de-stress oneself.
really? ohhhhh, that’s sad. its really magical.
go Pico Iyer!
I really like that quote you shared here. How true it is.
Yap, nature has a way of making all things better.
it was BLISS! cant imagine that happening in manila
“Fireflies said good night and the roosters woke me up good morning” just got me. Nothing beats a night spent with mother nature
i really dont know how to describe that moment! so haba ng title
