Q: What does a backpacker do in Del Monte Golf Course?
A: Drink lots of pineapple juice.
I guess I have all the right to treat myself with bottomless pineapple juice. First, I’m surrounded with this vast plantation of pineapple; Second, its cheap (Php20 only); and Third; I’m not feeling well. I got a sore-throat and flu- too much traveling and less rest.
I still have some pandesals (bread) in my bag so I didn’t order something to eat. I wanted to gulp all of pineapple juice I can. Remember I’m trying to live within my budget (Php500 or less/day).
I took this time to reflect once again (and write on my travel notes) while staring at the towering pine trees and enjoying the cold gusting wind from the Kitanglad Mountain ranges. It was therapeutic and very relaxing, I didn’t mind the time.
I was trying to ponder “Why the Koreans play golf while the Filipinos serve as caddy?” Is it just plain courtesy or part of the chronic issue of my countrymen being slaves in their own land. Are Filipinos destined to always be at the tail’s end, to be the one who always serves? Any thoughts on this? Are we contented to be that forever? I have similar reflections while I was in Palawan solo beach camping.
Ohhh by the way, before I forgot, I drank 5 glassful of pineapple juices (don’t dare ask me how many times I visited the restroom) all for only Php20. 🙂
