Travel Tip Thursday #5: Free Maps! Free Maps!

Face it, you are not all-knowing and you can’t memorize all the streets too. Therefore, you need a map. Whether you are a veteran traveler or just starting, you need an accurate map with you as you go along your journey.

What I do before was to buy a map from the nearest bookstore or download and print a map from the internet, but those entails additional costs, especially if I want it colored.

Yet through the years, I have learned a valuable lesson- Don’t buy a map. Ask for one (maybe two?). 🙂

FREE MAPS are available is you are keen enough to look for one. When I travel out of the country, I get maps from the airport before I get a taxi. If traveling in the Philippines, I make sure to drop by the tourism office and ask for one. When I was at the Department of Tourism a month ago, I got all the provincial maps of Regions 4A and 4B. It was helpful as I plan my next adventure.

And before I forget, the Philippine map from Mercury Drug’s calendar was very helpful for me. If you can get that, please do!

Ask for two if you can, so you can pass the other to other travelers.

Enjoy traveling! Share this tip to others too!

Yeah, good tip 🙂 I get maps from travel/tours-agency hopping; even if you don’t book anything yet. I guess that’s part of their marketing strategy anyway, so help yourself to that. There are also a lot of free map applications for smartphones if you use those. OK na din yun. Nothing beats old school maps for me, though. I can preoccupy myself for a long time with good, detailed maps.

pwede naman gps ng smartphone. I can recommend mapdroyd for android phones. it’s absolutely free and you can selectively download offline maps of countries. practically lahat ng countries. ang disadvantage so far na nakita ko ay ang map ng thailand ay naka thai text. di ko pa na check ang maps ng countries that don’t use the latin alphabet.

disadvantage kasi ng paper maps ay if you are out in the streets trying to find your way from a foldable map, halata sa mga masasamang elemento na dayo ka. pag phone naman, delikado sa snatching 🙂
