Travel Tip Thursday #7: Buy and Sell

Think if the Chinese businessmen who are all over the globe. You can find Chinatown everywhere, from Manila to Singapore, San Francisco and even Manchester. And what are they doing? Trading, business, dictating the economy in a certain district.

I have been to a lot of major cities in the Philippines and I observed that Chinese are everywhere- trading. My point being? They travel and move around because they know how to “buy and sell.”

Tip: Try buying something from the places you go to and then sell it when you go back to your hometown. I tried this a lot of times, the first time I went backpacking outside the Philippines, I bought some bags from Vietnam and sell it back in the Philippines. Then I was able to go back and forth to Puerto Princesa City because of the “pearl business.” I buy pearls and my mom makes beautiful earrings, bracelets and necklaces and sell it. Which reminds me to do this again.

If you are from Negros, you can buy Piaya and instead of giving it as pasalubong, sell it with a nice profit and tell your friends that you will use the income to go back to Negros. 🙂

Next time you go out of the country, forget shopping for yourself (just buy a souvenir), buy with the thought of selling it for a profit and use that profit as seed money for your next trip.

Enjoy traveling! Share this tip to others too!

Just spent the last hour browsing your website – the site and your travels are inspirational and impressive. Just thought this an apt place to comment as this article mentioned both my home town (Manchester) and current location (Negros). Good luck with the book…it’s great to see Pinoys backpacking…I just wish the phils was more readily accommodating and therefore enticing to the millions of backpackers who head elsewhere in SE Asia!
