Here’s for everyone to understand better and more clearly why I have to do the challenge.
Purpose: I want to prove to myself and to others as well, especially to Filipinos, that traveling is not that expensive (or reserved only for the rich) thereby encourage fellow Filipinos to travel and explore their own country.
Duration: July 6-21, 2010 (14 days + 1)
Route/Itinerary: West Visayas except Antique, Region 6 (get a Philippine map to better understand)
- Manila – Negros Occidental (Silay City, Bacolod City, Murcia, La Carlota City, Kabankalan City, Hinigaran, Valladolid)
- Negros Occidental – Guimaras (Nueva Valencia, Jordan)
- Guimaras – Iloilo (Iloilo City, San JOaquin, Miag-ao, Guimbal, Oton)
- Iloilo – Capiz (Capiz City, Pan-ay)
- Capiz – Aklan (Caticlan, Boracay)
- Boracay – Oriental Mindoro (Roxas, Calapan City)
- Oriental Mindoro – Batangas (Batangas City, Lipa City)
The Challenge: Spend only Php250/day (all-in) starting from Silay-Bacolod Airport
I first revealed the plan when I published 14 Days Solo Backpacking Challenge and then, the day before the challenge, I know that I’m Ready and Excited.
Learned some Ilonggo Words and More Ilonggo Words to Remember and did some nice landmark snapshots along the way- using the camera’s 10-sec timer to get Negros Occidental Capitol, enjoying Batchoy while marveling the Miag-ao Church and the underrated San Joaquin Church in southern Iloilo.
Maybe you are curious on how big my backpack is? Check out what’s inside my backpack and my “mobile bed” that is both insect repellent and water-resistant.
Then I was able to have an overnight stay on a captivating, simple and unexplored island that has never been mentioned in the internet or blog before. I also got the chance to update my blog while in Boracay on Day 12. Finally, I finished the challenge successfully giving me time tosleep all day.

Mas grabeh pa pala itoo!! Idol na kita koya
Newbie palang ako pero mukhang ikaw na gagayahin ko
woot wooot! yeah, thats the reason why i did the thing, so others will follow. maybe make it 500pesos next time para mas doable sa iba. problem is it will not sound like challenge na kung 500 right?
hope you can do this kind of trip in Mindanao! It’s a good plan for 2011! Cheers, James!
yes, hopefully! i really want to do it again but maybe with a higher budget. planning stage right now. thanks Jerik!

Idol ever!
salamat brenna! you’re are doing great in your travel blog ha… way to go!
what a really challenging trip. wow in less than 4k for 14days? amazing. wish i could do the same. and good luck in your upcoming 100days trip in ph.
yep audrey! haha looking back, that was crazy ayt? but sure taught me a lot of lessons
I think for most people who complain that it is expensive to travel- it’s not the single, young, backpacking crowd. It’s the families, especially the ones who have far too many children to cope with daily expenses, forget travelling altogether.
Nevertheless, your spirit is commended and I’m hopeful that more Filipinos will travel in the Philippines instead of outside, even if it is harder, takes longer (dahil sa mga delays, cancellations, etc.) more tiring, frustrating at times, but it’s worth it.
could be true. i know a backpacking family- Pinay Travel Junkie and family globetrotting yet not that expensive.
thanks for the commendation.
sir james do u have an itinerary to camsur??tnx…:D:D
