Day 13: I Heart You Puka Beach

2 days of hangover while traveling isn’t that good. What I needed was a refreshing moment at the beach. I want to spend sometime with myself and just sit there enjoying the sun and sands.

My host, Chad, was kind enough to accompany me to Puka Beach (although I love to meet different kinds of color at Stations 1, 2 and 3,). Puka Beach is located at the barangay Yapak, north of Boracay Island. I love this beach because it resembles my favorite beach in Palawan in its serenity and simplicity. I counted the tourist and there are about 20. This is the place to be if you want to be in Boracay without the incessant offerings of “banana boat rides” “reef-walking” and “island-hopping” tours. I spent half-day just lying inside the “kubo” resting and enjoying the sea breeze. Island life it is!

Dreaming: one hut for me and my wife, one for our son and one for our daughter

My travel notebook says:

10:30am, Hang-over. I can see Carabao island now, man, its near. Puka Beach is the place to be. Don’t leave Boracay without taking a dip. Clear blue sea, sand with shells, peaceful and just chill while enjoying the sea breeze. No signal for Globe, Smart has.

I’m a bit sad because I wasn’t able to follow the original plan of spending a night at Carabao Island because of the limited budget. I can do sleep there but I have to sleep there forever (no coming back). So, I think I have to return and discover that island next time.

About 4:00pm, I started to lace up for an afternoon run. Time to burn those carbs I accumulated on last night’s free smorgasbord. I had a nice 6 kilometers run at the beach then a group of divers invited me for a rhum coke shot. I did took one and rush to continue running. Then it rained hard, but I want to continue running for another 2 kilometers(on the road) from Station 3 to D-Mall.

I got the iced tea, no alcohol for tonight. Just chillin'

The night was spent chilling at Boom Boom Bar with Reggae music. Had to sleep early (2:00am) for Day 14: Going Home.

Day 13 Expenses in Philippine pesos

P10 Taho
P50 Breakfast (Beef steak and 2 cups rice from a small canteen)
P25 Tricycle (Fare to Puka Beach)
P25 Tricycle (Fare back to D-Mall)
P5 Water Refill
P16 Bread for Merienda
P10 Peanuts (The kid was selling it for P20, I said I will not buy. So he gave it at P10, the real price)
P35 Gatorade (need badly after the run)
P99 Dinner (Mang Inasal, rice all-you-can). Badly needed carbs for tomorrow’s Final Challenge.
—————
Php 275.00 (US$ 6.25 or €4.50)

Be sure to visit back on the last and final day- day 14. Crazy? Freaky? Hardcore? I don’t know how to describe that. Will I be successful on the challenge. Let’s see!
